Painter of landscapes in the acre

William Gehlert started his art career as the pupil of one of Wisconsin’s most famous watercolor painters. Bill was transferred to Indiana where he became self-taught. He captured prizes at shows in Evansville, Muncie and Indianapolis. He was invited to become a member of the Hoosier artists, an honorary society of well-known artists. In Indiana, Bill taught painting classes at Ball State University and night classes in New Castle.

His painting career had a hiatus when he was transferred to Washington, DC. On retiring, he worked with several art media until he settled on acrylics again painting the outdoors.

Bill’s work can also be seen in downtown New Bern at the Bank of the Arts.
