Plein Air Artist
|Susan Cheatham has a studio in downtown New Bern at the Community Artists Gallery and Studios in the Kress Mall Annex where she shows her work. She is the founding member of a group of outdoor painters called Coastal Carolina Plein Air Painters. CCPAP goes out once a week to different locations to paint live subjects from nature. We follow the seasons looking for beautiful places along the coast eastern North Carolina to paint.|
Susan likes to paint landscapes or any subject connected to water. Water has been an ongoing theme for her work. Changing of seasons is another inspiring time and she changes her palette of colors for each season.
Susan attended NCSU Design School and is Environmental Landscape Designer. She has studied with many artists over the years but she studied with Susan Sarback for a decade in her school of Color and Light in Sacramento California working with Impressionistic style pf painting.
She traveled to Maine in 2021 which inspired new paintings of lighthouses and many Maine Islands in Penobscot Bay and Camden, Maine. This year the island Eleuthera in Bahamas was on her travel agenda painting turquoise water.
