Ceramic Artist

Jane Erwin’s major body of work is the vessel form created by slab construction in stoneware. Her inspirations for surface texture, color, and illustrations come from landscapes of open fields, deserts, and farmlands which she views as three-dimensional. Ethereal surfaces of texture and color are achieved through soda firings. She completed her BFA degree in Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and a BFA in Ceramics from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She continues to work with metal for discipline but the desire to create larger sculpture led her to clay. She enjoys teaching art and technique locally and furthers her development through classes at Arrowmont School of Art and Design.

In 2021 she received the Fulton County Art and Distinguished Fellowship Award to attend a residency at Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences, Rabun Gap, GA. She was also awarded second place at the New Visions 2021 Exhibition at Kennesaw State University.

A recent New Bern resident, she is fascinated and inspired by the early morning light and late sunsets across the landscape here.
