Weaver and Fiber Dye Artist

Paula Hissett began her life dream of weaving over 20 years ago. She started with a weaving class from a local studio. Learning the basics made it possible to expand her repertoire to designing her own products. Growing from scarves and towels to intricate patterns and color combinations. Her work is a combination of fiber arts including but not limited to weaving, knitting, crocheting and dyeing.

To that end, Paula is constantly exploring the design capacities of her looms in order to showcase beautiful yarn and repurposed fiber. Well-worn t-shirts, silk ties, and other items of clothing find themselves into scarves, table runners and rugs.

An “extra” kitchen in her studio makes it possible to dye her own fiber and cloth. Paula is continually investigating ways to achieve interesting end products with Indigo, ice and resistant dyeing.

Paula is a member of Seacoast and Weavers Guild, in New Bern, the Mid Atlantic Fiber Association, and the Handwoven Guild of America. She is eager to assist new weavers and provides weaving programs to the public.

Her work may be seen at the Community Artists Gallery and Studios, in New Bern, and by appointment in her studio.
