Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Jan began her art career in advertising and design after graduating from Rhodes College. As advertising began to embrace computers, she learned to work digitally, but began to feel more like a machine operator than an artist. She then decided to pick up her neglected oil brushes and return to painting.
Many of Jan’s paintings are scenes from strolling the beaches of North Carolina, or from hiking trails in the North Carolina mountains. In New Bern her paintings can be seen at Bank of the Arts. Regionally, her paintings have been selected for shows in South Carolina, Virginia, and areas throughout North Carolina.
In addition to art, Jan has also worked as a writer, both for advertising/publicity and for small newspapers, earned an MBA (Master’s of Business Administration) from the University of Memphis, and certified as a Master Gardener with the Mississippi Extension Service in North Mississippi. She occasionally teaches an oil painting class for adults at Craven Community College in New Bern.
