Sculpting, Acrylic Artist

Catherine received her BFA degree from Longwood University in 1985 but put her artistic pursuits on hold in order to raise two rambunctious boys. During that time, she attended four sessions at Penland School of Arts and Crafts with interest in sculpting and painting.  Catherine then launched her professional career at Artspace in Raleigh. She continued to work with clay, but also painted, especially active sky images since her dad was a WWII Air Force pilot and a hero in her eyes.

Catherine has a strong sense of humor and it is most displayed in her clay pieces. One of her favorite writings is Lewis Carroll’s,  “Through the Looking Glass”. A parody concerning the over exaggerated sense of self-worth we humans tend to display at times.

She will say: “laughter is good medicine-even at one’s self”.
